Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Greenfield Water Solutions FAQ page! Below, you’ll find answers to the most common questions about our filters, filtration technology, system maintenance, and more.

GRAVITY FEED FILTERS & SYSTEMS

Can I use two different filters at the same time in a gravity feed system?
Yes, but we recommend using identical filters for best performance. Mixing filter types can create uneven flow and inconsistent filtration.
How many filters come in an order?
Most gravity filters are sold two per order. Check the product listing to confirm.
What is the difference between Original and Imperial filters?
Imperial filters have more surface area and typically a higher flow rate. Both are effective. Imperial filters are a better fit for larger systems or higher daily use.
How often should I replace my gravity filters?
It depends on your water and usage. Most gravity filters are replaced every 6–12 months. Follow the guidance on your specific product listing.
Do Greenfield Water gravity filters fit Berkey systems?
Yes. Our gravity filters are compatible with most Berkey systems and similar gravity-fed units.
What are the white tubes included with my filters?
They are optional flow enhancers. If flow remains slow after proper flushing and 1–2 weeks of use, installing the tubes may improve flow. They are not required.
Why is my filter filtering slowly?
New gravity filters may take up to two weeks to reach optimal flow. Sediment-heavy water, air pockets, and clogging can also slow filtration. See your troubleshooting guide for steps.
Why is my filter becoming discolored?
Discoloration is normal and indicates the filter is capturing contaminants. Clean gently as outlined in the maintenance instructions.
I just installed my filter. Why does my water taste different?
A temporary “new filter” taste can occur from harmless manufacturing residues. This typically resolves within a few days to two weeks after proper flushing.
What happens if I drop my filter?
Ceramic filters can crack if dropped. If a filter is damaged, replace it to ensure safe and effective filtration.

FILTER PERFORMANCE & MAINTENANCE

How do I know if my filter is still working?
A major drop in flow, persistent off taste, or visible damage can indicate the need for cleaning or replacement.
Do your filters remove beneficial minerals?
No. Our systems are designed to reduce contaminants while preserving naturally occurring, beneficial minerals.

WATER QUALITY & TESTING

Do you use reverse osmosis (RO) systems?
No. We do not offer reverse osmosis systems. Our approach focuses on effective filtration that preserves beneficial minerals without harsh treatment or excessive wastewater.
Will your systems remove 100% of contaminants?
No. Water chemistry is complex and no system removes 100% of everything. Our goal is meaningful contaminant reduction to safe, responsible levels, supported by testing and real-world performance.
Can I use a TDS meter with my system?
We do not recommend it. TDS meters measure dissolved solids, including healthy minerals. Because our systems preserve minerals, TDS may stay the same or increase and does not reflect filtration performance.
How should I test my water or system performance?
For accurate results, use comprehensive lab testing such as SimpleLab Tap Score. Chlorine strip tests can be a helpful spot check for certain systems. Order a test here.
What should I do if my test results look concerning?
Reach out to our team. We can help you interpret results and recommend a practical next step based on your water source and goals.
Can I use red dye tests?
No. Red dye tests are unreliable, do not represent real-world filtration performance, and can damage filters.

WELL WATER

Do you offer filtration for well water?
Yes. We offer well-water-suitable options in under-sink, countertop, and gravity-fed configurations. Always confirm suitability in the product details.
Do you offer whole home systems for well water?
Because well water varies widely and can involve complex dynamics, we require a consult before recommending a whole home setup for well water. Please email angel@greenfieldwater.com or complete our free Whole Home Consult Form so we can review your water and discuss options.

TECHNOLOGY & COMPATIBILITY

Are your filters NSF certified?
Many are NSF certified. Others use NSF-tested media or have third-party lab testing. We are transparent about certifications and testing on each product listing.
Can I add a remineralizer to my system?
Yes. Inline remineralizers or mineral bags can be added if desired. Our systems are designed to preserve beneficial minerals naturally, so remineralization is optional.
Do your systems work during emergencies or power outages?
Yes. Gravity-fed systems operate without electricity when paired with the appropriate filters. We are also developing an emergency gravity filtration kit planned for 2025–2026.

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS

Do your filters reduce fluoride?
Some filters reduce fluoride. Please refer to individual product listings for fluoride reduction capability.
Do you offer replacement parts?
Yes. We offer replacement filters, priming tubes, accessories, and key system components.
Are you still family-owned?
Yes. Greenfield Water Solutions remains family-owned. Our CEO, Ængel Greenfield, is the daughter of founder Gary Greenfield.
